We are pleased to announce that Roza Sampolinska, a well-known Colorado-based photographer, will strengthen jury of PICZ’s quarterly competition. Her skills and experience will give a different eye to the artwork being submitted by our contestants.
Roza specializes in black & white studio portrait photography and her very unique style is easily recognizable.
Born with an insatiable curiosity, Roza grew up in Poland and was exposed to many cultures and countries from an early age. She experienced diversity of cultures and beauties having lived in Krakow, London, Berlin, Tokyo, Denver, and other places. Combining her love for travel and people with her dream-like aesthetics, she creates photographs filled with magic and romance, reminiscent of the old Hollywood “film noir”. Roza captures the soul with a style that is artistic and unique in every aspect.
Her “Between Shadow & Light” Film Noir Portrait Lighting workshops are attracting passionate photographers all over the world.
Roza’s portraits have been published in many magazines worldwide: Dark Beauty Magazine, Vogue Italia, Digital Photo Video, German STERN, Chellea Magazine etc. Her works have also been exhibited in many galleries in Poland and Germany.
“I’m fine art portrait and commercial photographer, however photography is more my passion than my job. People are the subject that inspires me the most, their faces, their body language, and their personalities. I try to create them in my own way. Someone once said that “a good photographer should be able to capture the real soul of a photographed subject.” I personally do not agree with that because you cannot really know a person when you see him or her for just 30 minutes or even less sometimes. So what I do, I capture the person that I see, I capture my perception of that person.
Since I’m a cinema lover, especially the old Hollywood style with a lot of shadows and light, B&W, magic atmosphere, and that’s what I try to recreate in my pictures. To transfer the scenes in the movies that I’ve seen before, to recreate them in a way, in my photographs. To show this magic, romance and passion.
I’m glad to be joining Photo International Club Zurich as a member of competition jury. I hope to see a lot of interesting photographs representing different creative approaches to photography”.
